Pride New York 2022 LIVE – Preparations for the parade are underway after monkeypox and a Supreme Court ruling dampened celebrations

PREPARATIONS for the 2022 New York Pride March are underway despite growing concerns about rising cases of monkeypox in the US.

Some are changing their attendance plans after cases hit nearly 200 people, with NYC health officials offering a vaccine to men who have had multiple anonymous male sex partners in recent weeks.

As of Friday, 39 people in New York City have tested positive for monkeypox, according to the Department of Health and Mental Health.

This deflationary news comes days after the celebrations continue to be threatened by the controversial Supreme Court ruling that overturned nearly 50 years of constitutional protections for abortions.

Nonetheless, non-profit group Heritage of Pride wrote that they were thrilled to offer a variety of events for those looking to celebrate “LGBTQIA+ parents, youth and families.”

“Heritage of Pride works for a future without discrimination, where all people have equal rights before the law,” the group’s website says.

“We do this by hosting LGBTQIA+ Pride events that inspire, educate, commemorate and celebrate our diverse community.”

  • How long do the symptoms last?

Symptoms generally last 14 to 21 days, with severe cases depending on the patient’s age, level of virus exposure, medical condition, and the severity of complications.

Doctors and the public have been warned to be on the lookout for unexplained rashes.

  • What are the symptoms? continued

An itchy and sometimes painful rash appears slowly one to three days after illness, beginning on the face, palms, and soles of the feet.

What starts as a seemingly harmless red rash — which looks like chicken pox — develops into nasty blisters that can last for several days.

The inside of the mouth, genitals and mucous membranes around the eyes can also be affected by the nasty rash.

If the rash spreads to the eyes, it can lead to blindness.

While some patients may have just a few lesions, others have thousands, WHO says.

  • What are the symptoms?

Monkeypox causes symptoms between five and 21 days after exposure.

The symptoms of monkeypox start out similar to those of the flu. But then a rash breaks out, starting on the face.

    The first symptoms include:

    • Fever
    • headache
    • Muscle cramp
    • back pain
    • swollen lymph nodes
    • chills
    • exhaustion
  • What is monkey pox?

Monkeypox is a viral infectious disease.

This particular virus is a rare zoonotic disease, meaning it is transmitted from an animal to humans.

It is mainly found in remote parts of Central and West Africa near tropical rainforests.

It spreads between people only through close contact.

  • Concerned about monkeypox

This comes as cases of monkeypox continue to rise among gay and bisexual men with multiple anonymous partners, health officials say.

“This community is currently at a higher risk of exposure,” NYC Health reported.

  • The mission

According to their website, Heritage of Pride plans the activities to “inspire, educate, commemorate and celebrate our diverse community”.

“Heritage of Pride works for a future without discrimination, where all people have equal rights under this law.”

  • New York Pride 2022
