SIX people were injured on Thursday when a plane crashed in Texas after the pilot allegedly attempted to transport an unidentified passenger.
The Presidio County Sheriff’s Office shared a photo of the crash scene on land and called the incident a “smuggling conspiracy.”
According to the sheriff’s report, deputies responded to the plane crash at around 3.51 p.m. local time.
The landing occurred north of Presidio International Airport, in Presidio County, Texas.
The sheriff’s office explained in one Facebook post: “Representatives arrived on the scene and assisted the injured passengers when they discovered that the collision was a smuggling operation that had been mistaken.
“The pilot attempted to smuggle a number of undocumented individuals from the Presidio by air.”
According to the report, investigators believe the plane’s excessive weight and low fuel levels contributed to the plane’s landing.
Six passengers were found in the four-seat plane.
“Officers from Presidio Police, U.S. Border Patrol, Presidio EMS, TXDOT, and the Presidio Fire Department attended the scene to assist with search and rescue efforts,” the sheriff’s office said.
“Several undocumented individuals were transported to a hospital in El Paso and others were detained by the US Border Patrol.”
