However, the extra year is a player option, meaning it’s up to the striker to decide whether or not to trigger it.

Accordingly L’EquipeHowever, the star forward has sent the French champions a formal letter informing them that he will not activate this option under any circumstances.

Therefore, the Parisians may have to sell the France international this summer to avoid losing him on a free transfer next year.

Just yesterday PSG insisted the 24-year-old will not leave the Parc des Princes in the upcoming transfer window.

But Mbappe’s letter turned things around and “now everything is open”.

If the ex-Monaco star doesn’t take up the one-year extension, he’s free to sign a preliminary deal with a club outside France in January.

Real Madrid were keen to sign Mbappe last summer ahead of his current PSG deal, which is said to be worth a total of £500m over three years.

But Real are already ready to shell out a sizeable sum for Borussia Dortmund superstar Jude Bellingham, who will be worth at least £100m.

It means the Premier League’s biggest clubs could sign Mbappe.

Liverpool have previously been linked with the Frenchman while Chelsea are desperate for a leader in attack.

Newcastle could also invest their Saudi owners’ mega-wealth in one of the world’s best players.

And Manchester United could be taken over by Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani, who wants to start his bid to put the club back on top by signing a top star.

If Mbappe leaves, it means PSG could lose their entire star-studded front as Lionel Messi joins Inter Miami and Neymar is on the verge of his own exit.
