‘Power Book II: Ghost’ Finale Summary: Part 2, Episode 10

Sunday Book of Power II: Ghost The season 2 finale marks the end of an era: It was Powerverse creator Courtney Kemplast episode as host for one of her shows at Starz. And the executive producer was out with a bang. Exactly a few of them.
The episode sees the death of not only Daniel Sunjata’s Mecca, who was shot dead by Monet, but also Zeke (!), whom Lorenzo killed when he mistook the young man for Mecca. At the end of the episode, Monet receives word that her son has been found dead… and Lorenzo doesn’t say anything about pulling the trigger.
In Tariq related news: Braden testified at trial, saying He will was dealing drugs in their dorm room and Course Correct was his solo act. That was enough for the judge to dismiss the case, and the bailiff removed Tariq’s ankle bracelet. He briefly considered stopping adopting Yaz and regaining custody, but ultimately realized there was a better solution. (More on that in a moment.) He also learned that Lauren had died in a car crash, the news of which affected him greatly.
Near the end of the episode, Tariq pulls the strings and asks Tamika to take Yaz to live with Tasha in Witness Protection.
In 2021, Kemp signed a master agreement with Netflix; though she will maintain a presence on Book II: Ghosts and something else Power spinoffs, she will no longer participate as she used to Power conducted in 2014. On Friday, TVLine chatted with her about her beautiful swan song.
TVLINE | Are you like, “This is my last episode as host, I’m just about to increase my body count on my way out”?
[Laughs] No, I just want it to be great. I just want it to have an impact. I really want to do fan service. That’s the end result of today: I just want to do the best I can to serve the fans that I can.
TVLINE | I’m looking forward to when Monet finds out about Zeke, even though I don’t want to be around her when she does.
She will become a very different person next year. In the next season, the version of her that was trying to take control of her world, is now gone. It’s over.
TVLINE | And Zeke was her plan, and the plan is gone now.
It’s correct. The plan is gone. Her son is gone. And if you watched it all the way through, she liked him better, right? She liked him more than her other children. So now the cock will go home crowing about how she treats those kids, about what she hopes for her future, all that. And besides, what’s wrong with her husband! There is that. She’ll find a big way and it’ll happen… well, I’ll leave that to Season 3.
TVLINE | Do you think she thinks she and Lorenzo have a united front to move forward?
I don’t think she’s at all. In my opinion, it had to happen because it was the right thing for her to bring Lorenzo over to Mecca for the family. And she made a decision for herself that was the right one. But does she love Lorenzo? Is not. And she, in many ways, loves Mecca. But she had to do it, no matter what.
TVLINE | I love it whenever someone on one of your shows says, “I’m going to do this, and then I’m out of the game.”
Because you know I’m lying, right?
TVLINE | You always lie!
I always lie. Yes, that is certainly true.
TVLINE | For me, I feel like Tariq, at the end of this season, is getting tired of what’s going on.
He doesn’t want to do that anymore. He doesn’t want to have to run and hustle and all that. But at the same time, that’s the world he’s in and he needs money and he needs to move on. So he will keep going. I think that’s pretty obvious. He wants to go out. But, like father, like son. Ghost also wants to get out. That’s not what happened. [Laughs]
TVLINE | Was the plan always to have Tasha in the finale?
Yes, that was always the plan. And throughout the season, fans asked me, “When will she be back?” And I said, “She’s busy! She is on Queens! ‘ that’s true, but we took her out just to do this. And what people don’t understand about the TV business is how hard it is to get someone from a broadcast to come and do it. [a guest appearance]. Because of the way that their schedule is? Not an easy feat.
TVLINE | Obviously, Tasha won’t be happy until they’re all back there again.
Of course not! How can you be as long as you don’t have access to your child?
TVLINE | In your mind, is there a world where they can reunite again?
Yeah, but Tommy’s gonna make it hard. He also has his own show. He’s busy, but he doesn’t forget anything that happened. In addition, Tariq has to complete school to receive payday from his father. So yes, there is a version where they are all together and they have money, but Tariq has to finish college first. He has a lot of work to do between now and then.
TVLINE | What moment of the finale are you most looking forward to seeing for your fans?
I really hope Tariq brings Yaz back to their mother, even if he can’t join them. If people don’t love Tariq now, what can be said?… If you don’t love him, there’s something wrong with you, because he’s become a wonderful kid now. He has become a wonderful person. A person can actually value someone else’s needs more than his or her own.
