PORTUGAL have reportedly turned to Jose Mourinho to replace Fernando Santos as manager.

And they will let the Special One continue as a Roma boss even before Euro 2024.

Corriere dello Sport claims Portuguese bosses are taking action after being eliminated in last week’s World Cup quarter-finals by Morocco, who play France in the semi-finals tomorrow.

Euro 2016 winner Santos appears to be at the end of his career after six years.

And Mourinho has been identified as the man who will reverse Portugal’s fortunes at their next major tournament.

In fact, national team beaks have already turned to the ex-Chelsea and Manchester United manager to replace Santos in the new year.

Portugal will start their Euro 2024 qualifying chapter against Liechtenstein on March 23.

And they want Mourinho to be fully in position by then so he has time to identify Portugal’s top talent for a new tactical system.

A problem for the FA is that Mourinho remains fully committed to Roma despite being tempted by the prospect of a first-ever international appearance.

And the Portuguese chiefs are ready to let Mourinho play BOTH roles if the Roma agree to the arrangement.

Should Mou replace Santos, one of his first tasks will be deciding Cristiano Ronaldo’s future.

The ex-Man Utd player is now a free agent and has been dropped for Portugal’s last two World Cup games.

However, Ronaldo is reportedly not planning to retire from international duty and sees himself at the top of the next Euros.

Mourinho and Ronnie worked together at Real Madrid for several years, breaking Barcelona’s LaLiga dominance.

However, it remains to be seen whether Mourinho sees Ronaldo in the same light a decade later.
