PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The Port Authority is closing one of its bridges after engineers discovered a section had moved.
The Port Authority said an employee noticed on Friday morning that a joint on the deck of the bridge connecting the South Bus Line appeared to have widened.
Also known as the Palm Garden Bridge, the more than 1,000-foot span was built in 1977 and is used only for buses and T.
The Port Authority said the bridge was in good condition, but would remain closed until repairs could be made. The Port Authority said it was last inspected in October 2020 and assessed as satisfactory.
Red Line T vehicles will detour with the Blue/Silver Line from the Overbrook Interchange to Downtown. Rail shuttles will operate between Overbrook Interchange to Potomac Station and buses will operate between Potomac Station and Station Square.
Bus routes are still being finalized but will be posted on the Port Authority website.
