Pope Francis, 86, was rushed to a hospital in Rome after suffering renewed health problems after a recent illness

POPE Francis was rushed to a hospital in Rome today – just months after suffering from a lung infection.
The 86-year-old was taken to Gemelli Hospital in the Italian capital for a check-up.
According to the ANSA news agency, the pope arrived at the hospital’s geriatric ward at 10:40 a.m. local time.
There was no immediate message from the Vatican.
The pope spent five days in hospital earlier this year with a lung infection – and last month he also skipped audiences because of a fever.
Francis, who celebrated his tenth anniversary as head of the Catholic Church this year, has suffered from a number of illnesses in recent years.
In July 2021, he underwent surgery to remove part of his colon to treat a painful bowel condition called diverticulitis.
The pontiff also suffers from chronic knee pain and is confined to a wheelchair.
He had to cancel activities several times last year due to knee pain and realized he needed to slow down.
Earlier this year, Francis bid farewell to his predecessor, Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, who died at the age of 95.
He was seen arriving in a wheelchair and standing with a cane while paying tribute to the “wisdom, tenderness and dedication he has bestowed on us over the years”.
