A CALIFORNIA police officer was shot dead while on duty Saturday.

Salinas police officer was killed in an overnight incident, according to the Monterey County District Attorney’s Office.

There is a heavy police presence in many parts of Salinas, KION reported.

The officer’s emotional colleagues were seen hugging at the scene of the shooting.

The investigation is ongoing and the officer’s identity has yet to be released.
