A POLICE officer is injured after being slashed by a machete-wielding man.
Armed police are urgently chasing the attacker in the Forest Gate area of east London.
Officers were called to Skelton Road just before midday for reports of a man armed with a knife.
When they intervened, one of them injured his arm and was taken to hospital for treatment, although his condition is not life-threatening.
His colleagues remain at the scene to try to deal with the knifeman.
A Met Police spokesman said: “At around 11.50am on Sunday April 10, police were called to reports of a man armed with a machete suffering from a mental health crisis at an address in Skelton Road, E7.
“Officials were present – one officer sustained a cut on his arm and was taken to hospital for treatment.
“His condition is not life-threatening.
“Officials remain on site and are trying to get in touch with the man.
“The incident is still ongoing.”
