NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – Prayers are held on Sunday evenings outside Elmhurst Hospital for a 62-year-old woman who is in critical condition after being kicked in the head.
Police arrested 33-year-old Elisaul Perez, who was charged with assault and possession of a weapon.
Residents in the area said Perez slept on the street near the victim’s apartment complex, and assaulted people in the area.
“He has a lot of problems. We have a lot of people around here. He screams a lot,” said one resident.
“She is a very simple person, honest and very kind. You can see her image from her eyes. You know it,” added host Yihung Hsieh.
The victim’s landlord said she was cleaning the outside of an apartment building he owned when the attack occurred.
Police did not charge Perez with hate crimes.
