Police search a river for leads after fears a 26-year-old woman was murdered in an apartment block.

A 27-year-old was arrested on suspicion of murder and is in custody.

Police were called to Shuttleworth House in Lincoln out of concern for the woman’s well-being.

Lincolnshire Police are conducting searches in the Bassingham area with items “currently being recovered from the river”, police say.

Some Cannon Street residents nearby said they saw a small yellow car being loaded onto a recovery truck at Shuttleworth House in the early hours of Sunday.

Peter Lyng, 81, a retired ship’s captain, also saw the car being loaded onto the van.

He said: “I woke the dog up around 4am and noticed a van with a car loaded on it.

“It’s a shock to hear that the police have opened a murder investigation on your doorstep. It’s sad for the people they leave behind.”

Police now want to speak to everyone who was in the Bassingham area between Friday noon and 4pm on Saturday.

They’re hoping someone caught doorbell or dashcam footage that might help their investigation.

Detective Chief Inspector Jennifer Lovatt said: “There will be an increased police presence in the Shuttleworth House and Bassingham areas as we continue our investigation.

“We are working with those affected to keep them informed and to offer our support.

“We will work together in the affected communities to gather relevant information and reassure the public that we will do everything in our power to thoroughly and diligently investigate the full circumstances of this incident.

“We urge anyone who has information or footage that may support this investigation to get in touch with us.”
