Police are providing an important update on the search for missing British actor Julian Sands

Strong winds have again landed helicopters scanning mountains for British actor Julian Sands – and delayed a high-tech bid to locate him.
Sands, 65, disappeared two weeks ago while hiking in the Baldy Bowl area of California’s San Gabriel Peaks.

Air and ground searches were hampered by inclement weather.
But rescuers hoped to pinpoint his location using technology that can recognize electronic devices and credit cards.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department tweeted, “California Highway Patrol – Valley Division Air Ops of Auburn, Calif. is currently assisting with the search with a Recco unit.
“The Recco technology can detect Recco reflective material, electronics and in some cases credit cards.
“We hope this can provide an area to focus our search efforts on.”
The Sands family praised the “heroic” search effort and said they were “deeply touched” by the support they have received.
Yorkshire-born Sands, father of three, relocated to Los Angeles in 2020.
His breakthrough came in the historical drama A Room With A View, in which he starred opposite Helena Bonham Carter, but later switched to the horror genre, starring in films such as Warlock and Arachnophobia.
More recently, he played the chief medical officer in the 2021 drama Benediction, directed by Jack Lowden and Peter Capaldi.
From 1984 to 1987, Sands was married to future editor of the Evening Standard and Today, Sarah Sands, with whom he has a son.
He also has two daughters with journalist Evgenia Citkowitz, whom he married in 1990.
