Pokimane banned on Twitch for streaming Avatar, fans react

Fan Imane “Pokimane” Anys and her Twitch channel was hit with bad news hours before the streamer’s channel was banned from the platform following a DMCA strike.

While it was initially unclear why the popular streamer’s channel was taken down, it soon became clear that her 10 o’clock Avatar: The Last Airbender Watch Party was the culprit.

There are tons of shows on platforms like YouTube and Twitch that content creators can stream and react to. Copyright laws on them are not too protective, and streamers are allowed to hold viewing parties on it and upload reaction videos.

Unfortunately for the streamer and her fans, Avatar: The Last Airbender isn’t one of those shows, as the critically acclaimed animated series is only available on paid streaming services.

Thus, by streaming it as part of her viewing party, the streamer violated Twitch’s DMCA laws and Her channel has been taken down the result is.

Pokimane fan base split with streamer ban from Twitch

As one of the most popular streamers on the platform, her ban caused quite a shock to the twitch community.

However, her community is a bit divided when it comes to deciding whether the ban she received is fair.

A large part of her community believes the ban is appropriate. Avatar: The Last Airbender is owned by an American corporation, and the ban was inevitable because “these guys don’t mess around.”

@pokimanelol @DisguisedToast You have streamed copyrighted material. I don’t know much about how Twitch works but this seems like a logical conclusion.

@pokimanelol @DisguisedToast Ya I have a website that sells anime t-shirts and even though it’s 100% copyright, traditional Japanese anime really doesn’t impress anyone because they believe it’s a great form of advertising. Avatar is more like a cartoon and runs on Nickelodeon. They attack 100p

@pokimanelol @DisguisedToast Should have stuck with Japanese anime. You looked at something owned by an American company. This company probably knows better about sensationalism

While some fans justified the ban by bringing up the “American cartoon vs Japanese anime” debate, others were heartbroken to see their favorite creator’s channel. they were taken down.

Streamers are known to have devoted fansand many of them appeared in large numbers in the Twitter thread, saying that they wanted her to be re-installed on the platform.

This part of her community isn’t too happy with the DMCA strike, and even though the ban is temporary, they want her twitch ban lifted as soon as possible.
