Despite being announced in 2021, very few details have been released about the upcoming game and many were worried it might not be different enough.
Now Nintendo has released a 10-minute gameplay video showing a variety of new features and abilities available to the protagonist, Link.
Four new abilities were shown in the video, all activated by Link’s new robotic arm, which wasn’t present in the previous game.
The first, Fuse, allows players to combine any two objects in the world to create a weapon, shield, or other useful object.
The trailer showed the combination of a stick and a rock, creating a powerful hammer with tons of durability.
The next ability is called Ultrahand, which allows players to glue objects in the world together to create structures and vehicles.
The vehicles were shown in a previous teaser trailer, but many assumed they were pre-made objects in the world.
Another ability showcased was Recall, which rewinds time for a specific object, allowing you to undo damage done to an object or return it to where it came from.
The main use case for this in the trailer appeared to be climbing a sky island using a large object that had fallen from the island to the ground.
The last ability shown was Ascend, a useful ability that allows Link to travel through ceilings in almost any structure above him, artificial or natural.
This allows players to quickly scale mountains without consuming stamina, or escape from cages or caves when trapped.
The new skills show that Nintendo is serious about giving players freedom of choice and offers many tools to play how they want.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will be released on May 12, 2023 for Nintendo Switch.
