A SHOOTING near a Walmart reportedly injured one person as police rushed to secure the scene and locate the shooter.
Police said the shooting took place near a Walmart in Pittston Township, Pennsylvania on Wednesday afternoon.
The shooter is still at large as of late Wednesday night.
Officials say they are looking for a black man with dreadlocks, between 5ft 5 and 5ft 8, wearing a blue shirt with white writing.
At least one person was reportedly shot dead outside the store after a man allegedly opened fire.
State police say the shooting incident is being investigated as attempted murder, although it was originally an active shooter situation.
An injured person was taken from a nail salon on the square, according to a witness who spoke to the Times Leader. No formal word on injuries has yet been issued.
Master Trooper Deanna Piekanski advised drivers and pedestrians to avoid Route 315 near the Walmart.
The police officer confirmed that multiple shots were fired and are actively searching for a shooter.
Multiple calls from The US Sun to the Pittston Township Police Department were not immediately answered.
At least one helicopter has been spotted in the area.
Officials said Route 315 was closed to traffic in all directions.
Residents are asked to avoid the area at this time.
Video footage from the crime scene showed a heavy police presence along Route 315.
The Walmart is less than 6 miles from Wilkes-Barre Scranton International Airport.
Pittston Township, a small town in northeastern Pennsylvania, is located about 130 miles from New York City.
