PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Pittsburgh Public Schools students may soon take off their masks.

Board members will consider ending the district’s masking mandate later this month.

The proposal would update the district’s health and safety plan to make mask wearing optional. However, it will only happen if community-level COVID is moderate or low. Allegheny County is currently at a low.
After the CDC changed its mask guidelines in late February, many schools decided to opt for face coverings.

Statewide, mask-wearing in schools has not been required since the state’s Supreme Court overturned the Wolf administration’s mandate in December.
