PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – When you think of the perfect place to retire, it’s usually sandy beaches and clear blue water, or at least, warm temperatures. Pittsburgh isn’t exactly the first city that comes to mind, but according to a new report, it’s the best housing market for startups.
Knock, a digital home ownership platform, has released its top 10 all-generation housing market rankings for 2022, broken down by millennials, Gen X, and young boomers.
According to Knock, Pittsburgh has the best housing market for startups, followed by Lansing and Knoxville.

Acknowledging Pittsburgh doesn’t fit the mold of a retirement destination, Knock said it topped the list because of its affordable housing options, lower cost of living than other major cities, tax advantages and “The best of small-town friendliness, the benefits of big-city living. “
Knox said Pittsburgh’s forecasted median sale price for 2022 is $222,491, with a forecast mean change of 5%.
Pittsburgh doesn’t make the top 10 for housing for other generations, and neither does any other city in Pennsylvania. Knox says Austin is the best market for millennials and Miami is the place for Gen X.
