Pittsburgh air quality performs poorly for another year

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — A recent study showed that while air pollution has improved somewhat in recent years, Pittsburgh still ranks among the worst-ranked areas in the country for air quality.
According to the American Lung Association’s 2022 SOTA report, air quality in the United States is in a downward spiral.
The report included air quality statistics collected from 2018 to 2020.
Pittsburgh saw mixed results, lowering its annual average particulate matter pollution while also still failing to meet baseline standards for daily ozone and particulate pollution.
Fine dust pollution is a trigger for asthma attacks and increases the risk of heart disease and lung cancer.
Experts mentioned that pollution levels had dropped for a while during the pandemic because people weren’t commuting as much as usual.
