A PILOT was killed today after the glider he was flying crashed into a field.

Emergency services scooted to the tragedy near Hurston Lane in Storrington, West Sussex, just before 11am.

The glider could be seen tipped onto its side in the grass as paramedics struggled to save the man.

Police later confirmed that he died at the scene.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: “A man who was both the pilot and sole occupant of the glider suffered serious injuries.

“Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of paramedics and colleagues in the Air Ambulance Service, he sadly died at the scene.”

The pilot’s age has not yet been confirmed.

Cops said the coroner had been informed.

The spokesman added: “Officers remain on site while the initial investigation continues.”
