In that interview, the 37-year-old took aim at his employer at the time, as well as his manager Ten Hag, claiming he didn’t respect the Dutchman.

Ronaldo vented his frustration after spending much of this season on the bench and even refused to come on as a substitute in the Premier League win over Tottenham.

Ten Hag addressed Ronaldo’s comments while preparing his Red Devils for competitive football to restart after the World Cup.

The Dutchman hinted that Ronaldo’s lack of fitness may have contributed to his exile.

He said: “If he’s in good form, he’s a good player and he could help us come back and achieve our goals.

“That’s very clear. But he wasn’t.”

Pal Morgan has hit back at Ten Hag, calling the United manager a ‘clown’.

Morgan fumed, “‘If he’s in good shape, he’s a good player.’

“Hard to imagine why Ronaldo felt disrespected by that clown, doesn’t it…”

Ronaldo is fully focused on Portugal’s World Cup campaign, where he will venture into unfamiliar territory on the international stage from the substitutes’ bench.

After a lackluster group stage, in which he scored just one goal from the penalty spot, Ronaldo was ruled out of Portugal’s round of 16 tie against Switzerland.

And 21-year-old substitute Goncalo Ramos scored a hat-trick in front of Ronaldo.

However, reports that Ronaldo was stirring up disturbances in the camp were also wrongly dismissed by the Portuguese Football Federation.

Ronaldo’s next club is unknown but a mega deal with Saudi club Al-Nassr is said to be on the table.

Portugal meet Morocco, the dark horses of the World Cup, on Saturday and have a place in the semi-finals up for grabs.
