COUNTRY star Peter Cooper has died aged 52, his family has announced.

The musician and producer died on December 6th in Nashville, Tennessee.

He suffered serious head injuries after a fall.

His family said: “It is with a heavy heart that we inform you that Peter Cooper passed away in his sleep last night, December 6, after suffering a serious head injury late last week.

“We really appreciate the kind words and prayers you have shared over the last few days. Please know that they have offered much comfort to Peter and to us.

“We will shortly be announcing details of a celebration of life to take place in early 2023.”

Cooper’s brother Chris told The Tennessean: “He was larger than life.

“He was the smartest person in every room. He was the best writer in every room. And he was in rooms with some pretty damn smart people.”

Singer-songwriter Travis Tritt said: “So sad to hear of the passing of my friend Peter Cooper.

“Peter opened shows for me in the early 2000s.

“He was a great journalist, singer and songwriter.

“One of my biggest advocates always. Peter will be sorely missed.”

Record producer and guitarist Kenney Chesney told the Tennessean that Cooper “loved life, songs, stories and dreamers.”

Cooper has produced music as a solo artist and has also appeared on The Tonight Show and David Letterman where he played in the band.

He also performed alongside songwriter Eric Brace – founder of Red Beet Records.

Cooper was nominated for a Grammy in 2012 after producing the tribute album I Love: Tom T Hall’s Songs of Fox Hollow.

The musician was also an acclaimed journalist and wrote the obituary of country music legend Johnny Cash.
