PETE Davidson penned an emotional letter about leaving Saturday Night Live.
The heartfelt Instagram post comes ahead of his latest episode and ongoing romance with Kim Kardashian.
Close friend Dave Sirus shared a message on behalf of Pete, 28, on Saturday May 21.
It began: “From Pete: This video was taken 8 years ago. Jerrod [Carmichael – a fellow comic] sent it to me last night and it got me super emotional in the best way.
“In the video, I just came back from my very first update and sketch.
“It’s crazy to think that today I’m going to do my last.
The video showed a young Pete in leotard embracing his friend Jerrod backstage in 30 Rock.
He continued in his caption, “When I got the show I was 20 years old and had no idea what I was doing.
“I still don’t, but especially then. I wasn’t really a sketch performer, I was just a stand up.
“I knew I could never match or go toe-to-toe with a Kenan Thompson or a Kate McKinnon, so I was terrified of finding out what I could possibly contribute or do to such a historic, respected show and platform.
“I figured since I’m a standup I’ll just try my standup and personal stuff at Weekend Update as myself and I’m so glad I did.
“I have so much to share with this audience and literally grow up before your eyes.
“We’ve been together through the good and the bad, the happiest and the darkest.
“I owe my life to Lorne Michaels and everyone at SNL.
“I’m so grateful and without her I wouldn’t be here.
“I appreciate that you guys always have my back and stand up for me, even if that wasn’t the general opinion.
He concluded by thanking his fans for “always believing in me and sticking by my side, even when it seemed weird.
“Thank you for teaching me life values, how to grow up and for giving me memories that will last a lifetime.
“SNL is my home. I’m so happy and sad about tonight’s show. For so many reasons I can’t explain. I can’t wait to be back in a Mulaney musical number next year,” he joked.
It was signed: “⁃ Resident young person Pete Davidson”
Variety broke the news that Pete, who joined SNL in 2014 as a relatively unknown and precocious New York comic, is expected to leave the show.
Longtime cast members like Aidy Bryant, Kate McKinnon and Kylie Mooney are also set to leave, according to the outlet.
NBC declined to make producers at SNL available for comment.
The Staten Islander’s departure will likely mean the end of Chad, Pete’s apathetic recurring sketch character – and Weekend Update will literally need an update, since he co-hosted that too.
Tonight’s episode will be the season 47 finale, and Russian Doll star and co-creator Natasha Lyonne will be the host for the evening.
Yesterday, Deadline reported that Pete and his girlfriend Kim, 41, may be considering a move Down Under as their relationship grows more serious.
He started dating Kim last October after they reconnected when she hosted his soon-to-be former show.
The two shared an on-screen kiss during an Aladdin-inspired sketch.
Her courtship has since gone from strength to strength, despite her bicoast situation and interference from Kim’s ex Kanye West, 44.
He landed a role in Wizards! Filming will take place in Queensland, Australia.
Boyfriend Dave is also the comedian who leaked alleged “out of bed” messages between Pete and Kim’s ex.
LIVE FROM NEW YORK
Two years after Pete joined the cast, he filmed his first hour-long stand-up special for Comedy Central.
That same year, he was included in the Forbes 30 Under 30 list.
Five years later, in 2020, he released his Netflix special Pete Davidson: Alive From New York.
Davidson also co-wrote and starred in the 2020 film The King of Staten Island, directed by Judd Apatow.
The Sun has exclusively revealed that the reality star recently told her new boyfriend to find a place in LA to make their relationship work.
As he integrates into the famous family, Pete now turns to mom Kris Jenner, 66, for career advice.
Kim’s new relationship has also been a hot topic on the Hulu show The Kardashians, although Pete does not appear in any episodes this season.
But they caused quite a stir at the Met Gala earlier this month when the mother-of-four appeared in Marilyn Monroe’s $5 million dress with her boyfriend by her side.
Meanwhile, the New Yorker is working on his new upcoming sitcom Bupkis.
He has reportedly struck a deal with streaming giant Peacock to make the show, which will be based on a fictionalized account of his own life.
As viewers of SNL and The King of Staten Island have learned, Pete is no stranger to a little self-deprecating humor, and Bupkis is expected to be unfiltered and R-rated, with over-dramatization and off-the-wall comedy
He also recently opened the Pebble Bar in NYC and bought a defunct Staten Island Ferry as an investment.
