APPLE’s newer iPhones usually have good battery life, but apps can affect quality.

If you find yourself with an iPhone that’s draining juice too quickly, you might want to try a feature that’s hidden without your settings.

It’s called background app refresh.

Apple explains: “After switching to another app, some apps will run for a short time before going into a suspended state.

“Apps that are in a suspended state are not actively being used, opened, or occupying system resources.

“Background App Refresh allows paused apps to check for updates and new content.”

The feature can be useful, but it also drains the battery, so you might want to press the button to turn it off.

Apple even admits, “Turning off apps can help extend battery life.”

Go to your settings apps and click on “General” and then on “Background App Refresh”.

Here you can click a switch to turn it off.

You’ll also see two other settings that say “Wi-Fi” and “Wi-Fi & Mobile Data.”

If you find that turning it off makes you feel less up to date with your beloved apps, just follow the instructions above to turn it back on in seconds.

Alternatively, try the “Wi-Fi only” setting.

That means you won’t waste your data and battery updating apps when you’re on the go, but they’ll update when you’re on Wi-Fi.
