Paul was a founding member when the group formed in Newcastle in 1989.

The band is known for their hit Better, which reached the top 5 on the ARIA charts in 1991.

In a touching statement, The Screaming Jets said: “It is with broken hearts that we inform you that our beloved rock brother Paul Woseen passed away today.”

“We are devastated by the loss of Paully.

“He was a shining light in our lives.”

“Our thoughts are with Paully’s family and we ask that you respect our need for privacy at this time.”

His cause of death has not yet been confirmed.

The 56-year-old founded The Screaming Jets with frontman Dave Gleeson, Grant Walmsley and Richard Lara with their debut album All For One.

Woseen was still a member of the group as it welcomed new members over the years.

Current band members include Gleeson, Jimi Hocking, Scott Kingman and Cam McGlinchey.

The Screaming Jets recently released a new single, Nothing to Lose, from their upcoming album Professional Misconduct, due out October 6th.

The album comes ahead of a lengthy national tour starting in November.

The bassist received numerous tributes, including Chris Cheney from The Living End and rocker Natalie Bassingthwaighte from Rogue Traders.

One fan said on Twitter: “Devastated to hear of Paul Woseen’s death.”

“He was kind, caring and extremely talented. I was in several school musicals with him and sang with him in the Newcastle Cathedral Choir for five years.”

“Shine on you, crazy diamond. Vale Paul.”
