Patrick Reed throws TEE at Rory McIlroy after ‘ignoring him to say hello’ amid Gulf civil war over LIV Tour.

RORY MCILROY and Patrick Reed caused an uproar on social media over claims they clashed ahead of this week’s Hero Desert Classic in Dubai.

Reed allegedly threw a tee shot at McIlroy for ignoring him on the practice field.

It comes after the American sent sarcastic greetings to world No. 1 and his caddy Harry Diamond.

Former Masters champion Reed, 32, is one of the biggest stars on the controversial Saudi-funded LIV Tour.

McIlroy, meanwhile, has been one of the breakaway circuit’s most outspoken critics, having rebuffed their desperate overtures.

Reed is still able to play DP World Tour events while an arbitration proceeds to decide whether the money-hungry rebels can be banned.

It goes without saying that the application for Diamond went without drama.

But when Reed walked over to greet McIlroy, who was perched on his haunches, the fun started.

The Northern Irishman, 33, refused to even turn his head to look at Reed.

The unpopular Ami stood next to his rival for a few seconds but received no response and eventually decided to walk away… but only after reaching into his pocket and teasingly starting the t-shirt.

It’s not the first time tensions have boiled over between LIV defectors and DP World Tour players.

At BMW International, an anonymous player told The Telegraph: “The news (of the ban) came out during BMW International last week.

“Sergio Garcia went off the rails and yelled, ‘This tour sucks, you all suck, should have taken the Saudi money.’

LIV has accused the PGA and its supporters of a series of “antitrust violations”, claiming the game’s rulers illegally attempted to destroy its chance of success and demanding a huge compensation payment.

As a result, LIV’s lead attorney, Larry Klayman, added fuel to the fire by announcing that legal action had been taken against Tiger Woods, McIlroy and former US Ryder Cup skipper Davis Love III.

Neither Reed nor McIlroy could be contacted to confirm the alleged bankruptcy.
