ODESSA, Texas (Nexstar) – Aaron Shipman, head pastor at Baptist Bible Church in Odessa, was arrested and charged with sexual assault.

On January 17, an 18-year-old woman told Odessa Police Department investigators that she had been sexually abused and assaulted several times over the past two years, according to an arrest affidavit. An autopsy revealed the victim had sustained sexual trauma.

In a statement to ABC Big 2 News, church leaders said Shipman was fired from his pastoral job and banned indefinitely from church property. That statement is in part:

“As a Department, we are deeply saddened and hurt to hear of the allegations against Aaron Shipman… We are and will continue to cooperate fully with the authorities and any public officials. ”

Shipman has since left the Ector County Detention Center with a $60,000 deposit.
