Passenger dies after driver crashes car stolen into Westminster police car – CBS Denver

WESTMINSTER, Colo. (CBS4) – The driver of the stolen vehicle crashed into a police vehicle in Westminster around 12:15 a.m. Wednesday, killing the female passenger in the stolen vehicle, and injuring an officer and a civilian passenger in the vehicle. patrol.

Westminster Police were in the area of 92nd Avenue and Pierce Street when they noticed a vehicle traveling east on 92nd Avenue had a blown tire and a hazard light was on. Dispatch had previously warned officers that the vehicle had been stolen and may be in the area.
A Westminster officer tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver failed to stop. Officials said police did not pursue the vehicle and the driver fled at high speed. The driver allegedly ran red lights on 92nd Avenue and Westminster Avenue – and crashed into a police car at the intersection.
The officer and his civilian driver were transported to a local hospital and later released with minor injuries.
Both the driver and passenger of the stolen vehicle were taken to a local hospital. The female passenger was later pronounced dead. The driver was seriously injured and is still being treated.
The identity of the deceased passenger will be released by the Jefferson County coroner’s office.
Investigators were at the intersection for several hours and advised drivers to take an alternate route. The Colorado State Patrol is handling this investigation.
