Parkland Dad Goes To Washington Meeting With The President – CBS Miami

PARKLAND (CBSMiami) – Gun violence victims and families of lost loved ones in Bayfront Park in memory of the 26 young students and staff members who died at Sandy Hook Elementary 9 years ago.

“We can let the scene continue or we can act!” Congressman Gabrielle Giffords, a victim of gun violence, called for action. One who took it as his heart because he was broken, “I am trying to have a meeting inside the White House with President Biden to address the issue of gun violence,” said Manuel Oliver.

Oliver, Joaquin’s son killed in the Parkland shooting, has been standing in front of the White House for the past 13 days. He told CBS4 News that he has no plans to go anywhere until he has a meeting with the president.

“I am not going anywhere. I don’t have any plans for Christmas. I don’t celebrate anymore. I used to have a lot of fun with Joaquin with the decorations and the tree. But, all those miracles were taken from my family. ”

That holiday magic also separated from Fred Guttenberg, whose daughter, Jamie, was also murdered in Parkland. He plans to travel with Oliver to Washington, DC this Thursday.

“We now have a President who will sign the gun legislation. We have a House of Representatives that is introducing and passing legislation and we have a Senate that is currently locked at 50/50 with a movie,” Guttenberg said.

Guttenberg said 100 Americans are shot every day. A photo of teenagers near Miami Norland Senior High School around the same time as this interview is proof of those startling statistics.

Guttenberg, dejected, pointedly pointed at Senator Marco Rubio of Florida.

He called this an attack on the 2nd Amendment. He called the memorial an attack on the 2nd Amendment. Poor man. He needs to be replaced,” Guttenberg, referring to the 3,000 vases filled with white flowers at Bayfront Park representing the 3,000 lives lost to gun violence in Florida in 2020.

Oliver added: “You have politicians affiliated with the NRA who receive money from the gun industry to become partners and endorse their campaigns.

As the legislation is about to be passed, a reminder from a father who has lost his beloved son to all the other parents out there.

I’m here to protect other kids, your kids and any kids out there,” Oliver said.

Manuel Oliver says he’s building momentum on social media, where you can follow him with the hashtag #MeetWithManny.
