Paris 2024 Olympic Games head promises ‘magic’ opening ceremony with 10,000 athletes floating on Seine by boat

The Paris 2024 Olympics will open in spectacular style – with the Olympic athletes arriving by BOAT along the Seine.

Organizers are planning a daring opening ceremony unprecedented in the 125-year history of the modern Olympics.

On July 26, 2024, more than 10,000 athletes and officials from more than 200 countries will sail nearly four miles across the water in front of 600,000 fans in the French capital.

More than 160 boats will pass through Paris’ famous bridges and monuments such as Notre Dame and the Louvre.

The closing ceremony is scheduled to be held at the Trocadero, a large garden and fountain overlooking the Eiffel Tower.

This breaks with the long-held tradition of the Summer Olympics of carrying athletes and officials into the stadium.

The safety of the stars will obviously be an issue because although there will be ticket stands, the public will also have free access to part of the waterfront.

IOC President Thomas Bach said: “Holding the Opening Ceremony along the Seine, the iconic river in the heart of the city, is perfectly in line with Paris 2024’s ambitions to recreate the Game model with how to extend participation to as many people as possible.

“This ceremony will be a special experience for all the participating athletes, but also and above all, for the people of Paris, for France and for the whole world.”

Paris 2024 President Tony Estanguet said: “Rest assured, the Opening Ceremony of Paris 2024 will be nothing short of magical.

Paris will become the second host city after London to host the Summer Olympics on three separate occasions, following from the 1900 and 1924 Olympics.
