Gainesville police made the discovery on Sept. 1 after McLaughlin called them to his home.

She said she was about to take a nap when Lee woke her up and said her daughter had stopped vomiting.

But investigators say McLaughlin and Lee both went to work that day and left the toddlers alone for eight hours without anyone checking on them.

Police believe one of the children died as a result of years of devastating injuries.

The other was also injured but was taken to a hospital for treatment.

McLaughlin and Lee fled to Atlanta, where they were arrested by Gainesville police, Alachua County investigators and the U.S. Marshals.

They will be extradited to Florida to face murder, aggravated child abuse and child neglect charges.

They were held on a $4.5 million bond.
