OVEREAGER fans broke protocol today as they greeted Charles outside Buckingham Palace – with a woman leaning in to kiss the new king.
His Majesty, 73, was greeted by thousands of well-wishers as he arrived at Buckingham Palace with Queen Camilla today.
“God save the king” and “Thank you Charles” were shouted as the monarch exited the car at the palace for the first time as a monarch.
Many greeted “We love you, Charles” from the crowd – while others were more accommodating.
One woman kissed Charles on the hand while another kissed him on the cheek.
The king didn’t seem to mind and graciously thanked the royal well-wishers who lined up in front of the palace to shake his hand.
He and Camilla then looked at the hundreds of flower tributes that were left at the palace gates for Queen Elizabeth.
The King has now begun his first day as the nation’s monarch after waiting 70 years for the throne.
He was pictured this morning leaving Balmoral for London where he will hold his first audience with Prime Minister Liz Truss.
Charles was joined on the somber journey by Camilla, who is now the Queen Consort.
Both looked emotional as they were driven to Aberdeen Airport where they boarded a plane bound for London.
The Royals then landed at RAF Northolt, West London this afternoon, where they were picked up by car.
Police halted traffic on West End Road as a convoy of four black cars, a black van and a police car left the airbase.
And the king waved to the crowd gathered outside as he set foot on English soil for the first time since becoming monarch.
It came after Prince Harry was spotted leaving the Scottish castle alone in the back of a Range Rover this morning.
He was not joined at Balmoral by wife Meghan Markle, who is reportedly still in London.
King Charles will deliver his first televised address to the nation later today.
He is expected to pay tribute to Britain’s longest-reigning monarch and profess his duty to a life of service in a televised speech.
The royals have now entered a period of mourning, which will run from today until seven days after the Queen’s funeral.
