Because Vermont has been hit hard by the Covid During the pandemic, the state is providing subsidies to cover labor shortages and providing much-needed relief to stricken businesses.

The New Resettlement Worker benefit is worth $7,500 and is open to those who become full-time Vermont residents working for qualified employers.

This benefit is for people who moved to Vermont on or after July 1, 2021 and have begun working for a Vermont employer.

Additional eligibility requirements are in place and must be met to be eligible to receive funds.

To start, workers must earn at least $13.39 per hour. This is Vermont’s available salary.

Workers must also:

  • Eligible relocation expenses have been incurred; and
  • Subject to Vermont income tax; and
  • Be employed by an employer that attests that, after reasonable time and effort, the employer has been unable to fill the employee’s position among Vermont applicants.

This grant is different from the New Remote Worker Grant, which is not yet accepting applications.

Similar to the New Resettlement Worker Grant, the New Remote Worker Grant carries a maximum bonus amount of $7,500.

This grant is intended to entice people who work from home to move to Vermont.

Workers must move full-time to Vermont on or after February 1, 2022 to be eligible, and work full-time remotely for an out-of-state employer from a home office or workspace General job located in the state of Vermont.

They must also earn a Vermont living wage of at least $13.39 per hour.

Workers must also:

  • Eligible relocation expenses have been incurred; and
  • Subject to Vermont income tax

Applications for the new Relocated Worker Allowance are now open, while applications for the new Remote Worker Allowance will open in February.
