Over 200 fans injured – 5 seriously injured

FIVE people have been seriously injured after the stands collapsed at a football match in India.

According to Local Police, more than 200 people are believed to have sustained injuries in the horrific incident shortly before the game started on Saturday night.

Footage from the scene in Kerala’s Malappuram district, shows spectators being thrown to the ground as the structure suddenly gives way.

The headlight also topples over, causing sparks to fly as it hits the floor.

Onlookers on the opposite side held their heads in disbelief before rushing in to offer to help the injured.

Others present at the collapsed stand fled the scene after being caught up in the terrifying ordeal.

Local reports in Kerala claim organizers for the match between local teams United FC Nellikuth and Royal Travel Kozhikode did not expect such a high turnout.

It is claimed an estimated 6,000 people attended the match.

Nor are any security measures applied to a seven-way match.

The injured were taken to a local hospital, where they are currently being treated.
