Outrage as Disney fans sell ‘Splash Mountain Water’ for $1,000 a bottle while shock-closure ride shuts down

OPPORTUNISTIC Disney fans are under fire for attempting to sell water from a now-closed amusement park ride that was the source of a major controversy.
Disney World’s Splash Mountain closed on Tuesday after 30 years for spreading “inappropriate” racial stereotypes – but some fans aren’t ready to say goodbye.

The iconic log flume ride was shut down after officials announced they were “reinventing” the experience in June 2020.
It once depicted the 1946 Disney film Song of the South, which has long been criticized for its unfair portrayal of black Americans in a post-slavery era.
The problem came to a head when around 21,000 people signed a Change.org campaign urging Disney to change the ride.
Now officials have announced that the experience will feature Princess Tiana – the first black protagonist from the film The Princess and the Frog.


Piggybacking on the controversy are some opportunistic eBay users who claim to be selling water from the original rides.
Savvy sellers claim the ounces of H2O are straight from driving the last day in a row and are asking for anywhere from $10 to over $1,000.
In one listing, the seller claims that a dented 16.9-ounce plastic water bottle is worth a whopping $1,025.
The words “Splash Mountain Water Last Day 1/22/23 Disney World” are scrawled on the expensive bottle in permanent marker.
According to the insider, an online troll created a now-expired listing titled “tap water out of my sink” in a $25,000 Splash Mountain bag.
“This is obviously just for fun and to poke fun at the people who are actually selling water from a ride,” the outlet’s description reads.
“I’m a Disney fan, but come on folks, the world is so doomed people would buy water from a ride.
“Smh, if you really want this water, buy it. I even deliver for free!
“Have a Magical Day!”
Fans seem unable to let go of the ride when a woman does a viral TikTok claiming to have named her baby after the ride.
However, Splash Mountain has officially come to an end, and the new experience is expected to go live next year.
Disney CEO Bob Iger said in 2020, “Since I’ve been CEO, I’ve felt that ‘Song of the South’ — even with a disclaimer — just wasn’t appropriate in today’s world.”
It comes after groups like the NAACP protested the film’s initial release.
The film is not available to the millions of subscribers to the company’s Disney Plus streaming service.
A Change.org petition calling for the rewrite said: “Though the ride is considered a beloved classic, its story and plot are steeped in highly problematic and stereotypically racist tropes from the 1946 film Song of the South. “
The petition went on to say that while the ride’s plot is not an exact version of the film’s plot, the characters, songs and locations are all key features of the ride.
It added that Disney had removed Song Of The South from its library and called for “all traces of this racist film” to disappear and for Splash Mountain to be turned into a “Princess and the Frog”-themed ride.


Disney has removed Song Of The South from its theme park background music, including the song Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah.
Submission dates for the California Disneyland ride are yet to be announced, but the replacement should also be available by the end of 2024.
