Respectable actress Debbi Morgan played dozens of roles on the big and small screen, but muscle memory is a funny thing.
When she was before All my children costar Darnell Williams first appeared on Our kind of people setup – his episode airs on Tuesday (Fox, 8/8c), and his role is being kept under wraps – Morgan’s logic has been dropped and her heart and mouth taken over.
“We shot the scene where Darnell’s character walked through the door for the first time,” Morgan revealed to TVLine. “And this was the first time we saw this character on the show, and I looked at him and yelled, ‘Jesse!’ The director had to scream and everyone burst out laughing. That is hilarious. I know that’s not his name on Our kind of people but I can’t help myself. We worked together for so many years as Angie and Jesse and that was the first thing that popped into my mind. ”
Morgan added that reunited with her other half All my children Superman couple is not only fun, but also strengthening.
“I am extremely excited to be working with Darnell again,” Morgan said. “He is like family to me. We always have a lot of fun because we have such a close relationship. He even let me go when I married my husband Jeff.”
As Our kind of people Fans know, Morgan played Angela’s struggling Aunt Piggy on Karin Gist and Lee Daniels’ alluring and seductive drama, which explores the black, rich, and ruthless man who calls Martha’s Vineyard home. In the January 11 season, Piggy turns herself in to the police station for killing her boyfriend Darius in the 1980s. But Williams’ enigmatic figure reveals that there’s a lot Piggy doesn’t know about Darius’ death.
“When I first read the script, I felt like, ‘Wait a minute? Why did Piggy end up in jail after all these years? ‘” Morgan recalled. “But Piggy is growing into a human and doesn’t like Teddy holding her head… She thinks turning her head will free her from the past so she can rest in peace. She has taken a life and it is weighing heavily on her.”
With so many twists and turns regarding Eve’s past, Teddy’s numerous secrets, and the relationship between Olivia, Rose, and Eve, Morgan says she’s optimistic more people will be watching the final two episodes of the series. Our kind of people and Fox will refresh the show for Season 2.
“I really hope our show is well received and given a second chance,” revealed Morgan. “We started to shake but the story is now grounded and coming out and these last two episodes are really, really good.”
Sadly, Morgan also knows ratings can make or break a show.
“Unfortunately, we didn’t do well in live broadcasts but we killed it when streaming on Hulu,” she surmised. “I hope Fox is looking at that progress and that’s enough to bring us back. Our kind of people being part of this new Negro renaissance on TV and film allows us to be our Negro and celebrate our skin and our hair and our culture, and I don’t want that to happen. that ends”.
