EVERY year, we get some amazing – and weird – products to try. There are several that we continue to buy and use regularly.
Here are the health and beauty heroes we can’t live without – from superfoods to amazing creams that leave skin silky smooth.
Health with Jane Atkinson
FGOOD HEALTH CHECK – In an age where we can’t see a doctor whenever we want, this is amazing. Using a blood sample from your finger, they perform all sorts of tests at home – from measuring important hormones to checking your liver and vitamins.
Plus, the great app means you can repeat tests and access past results. I was shocked at how bad my omega levels were. Tests from £35 plus £5 for extra tests, outwithlife.co.uk.
NUFFIELD GYM CODE – How could the gym be one of my favorites? Well, over the past year there have been some pretty stressful times, being a member of Nuffield gym in Manchester has helped me a lot in many ways.
It has classes you can take, a personal trainer who can show you what to do and provide support, and boxing bags you can punch to relieve stress.
Plus, I find logging into its digital platform for meditation and mindfulness sessions amazing. From £31 a month for full membership, nuffieldhealth.com.
COMPLEMENTARY – Since writing this health column, and taking a nutrition course, I’ve always taken probiotics for gut health and magnesium for mood and sleep. Now I also drink collagen for skin. I have tried so many and now regularly purchase my favorite rejuvenating collagen pills.
They contain 10,000mg of marine collagen per serving. When I’m not using them, I notice it on my skin. £44.95 for 24 packs or a bag of 30 servings.
Beauty with Gabriella Stein
BUDGET – Frank Body Body Scrub and Mask (£14.95, 140g, Cultbeauty.co.uk): Coffee dates are made from more than 98% ingredients of natural origin. Caffeine is used to tone and firm the skin, while charcoal removes impurities to reduce breakouts.
Grapeseed oil softens and hydrates while milk thistle oil fights premature aging. Coffee scrubs can be messy but this is a dream come true. The bag allows you to dispense the right amount. I scrubbed and let it sit for five minutes before rinsing it off. After using the skin is as soft as silk.
MID – Paula’s Choice, liquid exfoliator (£31, 118ml, feelunique.com): A mild liquid exfoliator containing 2% salicylic acid to remove dead skin cells as well as reduce blackheads and enlarged pores. Easy to apply with a cotton pad and gentle enough for everyday use. I noticed a difference after just a few days. This significantly improves skin tone. In addition to reducing blemishes, this leaves my skin glowing – as if it were brand new and soft. This is a regular part of my skin care routine.
LUXURIOUS – Elemis Pro-Collagen Overnight Matrix, (£148, 50ml, uk.elemis.com): This anti-aging night cream helps target deep wrinkles and lines. Padina pavonica, a brown algae, boosts hydration and is said to target stressed skin areas for plumper, younger-looking skin. This one has a beautiful texture that sits between a cream and a cream. Soft and light and your skin feels bright and regenerated. Expensive but one of the best. Available in 15ml for £51.50 for those who want to give it a try.
