Oscars: 8 categories that were pre-shot, not shown live this year

Oscar will reduce the number of awards presented at next month’s televised ceremony.

According to The Hollywood Reporter. Categories affected: documentary short, film editing, makeup/hairstyling, original point, production design, animated short, short action and sound.

The Oscars tried something similar in 2018, but scrapped those plans after receiving backlash from within the film industry. ABC Television Station record low ratings last year, with just 10.4 million viewers, down 56% from the previous year, so the move could be an attempt to streamline the ceremony and attract more viewers.

Amy Schumer, Regina Hall and Wanda Sykes will host this year’s Oscars TV show, which airs on Sunday, March 27 at 8/7c on ABC. (Click here to see the full list of this year’s nominees.)
