Who voted for the Oscar winners?

Voting is done by the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

The academy is comprised of 8,000 individuals who have been described as “successful men and women working in film”.

The team consists of actors, producers, directors, screenwriters and all other high-ranking members of the film industry.

The members’ identities are a closely guarded secret.

How does the Oscar voting system work?

Academy members can only vote in their field during the first round of voting.

In other words, members who are actors can only vote for actors, directors can only vote for directors, producers only for producers, etc.

Not only that, the ballot paper encourages people to vote for any movie they like and is asked to make five choices in order of preference.

Voting begins in January and is done via paper or online voting, and nominations are tapered down to official nominations.

From there, another round of voting took place just a few days before the event.

Votes are counted by PricewaterhouseCoopers, who then work to determine who won.

How is the Oscar nomination for Best Picture different?

Unlike the other categories, anyone in the Academy can vote for Best Picture.

A movie must receive more than 50% of the votes to win.

However, if no film achieves this number of votes in the first place, the least successful film will be disqualified from the contest and the votes it receives will be redistributed to the selection. second pick of the ballot.

This process then continues, with the last ranked film cut and its votes reallocated, until a film achieves the majority needed to win.
