Original Gerber baby Ann Turner Cook dies aged 95 as the company pays tribute to the teacher who inspired the iconic logo

ANN Turner Cook, the woman who rose to fame as the original face of Gerber Baby, has died at the age of 95, sources say.

The baby food company announced her death on Instagram and sent her “deepest condolences” to Cook’s family.

In the Post, Gerber wrote, “Gerber is deeply saddened by the passing of Ann Turner Cook, the original Gerber baby.”

Cook’s face was designed as a logo more than 90 years ago, Gerber said.

“Many years before she became an extraordinary mother, teacher and writer, her smile and expressive curiosity won hearts everywhere,” the company said.

Gerber said she will continue to live in her brand as a symbol of babies.

People took to the comments on the post to share their tributes.

“She’s had the same sweet eyes her whole life. RIP,” one person said on Instagram.

Another person said: “Awe, so sad. What an icon.”

According to Gerber’s website, the company ran an advertising campaign to find a face that would represent its brand.

An artist named Dorothy Hope Smith submitted a wide-eyed, open-mouthed charcoal sketch of an Ann Turner Cook and said that if selected, she would complete the drawing.

Gerber wrote that Smith competed with works such as finished oil paintings, but the judges fell in love with simple illustrations.
