Ontario’s top doctor holds press conference after detecting Omicron in the province

TORONTO – Ontario’s chief medical officer will speak to the media this morning, following Canada’s first two cases of a disease COVID-19 Interesting variations were detected in the province.
Dr Kieran Moore is expected to talk about cases of the Omicron variant, found in patients in Ottawa who have recently been in Nigeria.
The World Health Organization has warned that this variant may be more contagious than others.
It was first detected in South Africa, and has been linked to an increase in cases there.
The federal government on Friday banned travelers from seven South African countries in an effort to prevent the variant from entering Canada, but Nigeria is not among them.
The province has called on Ottawa to implement COVID-19 screening at destination for everyone entering Canada regardless of where they come from, rather than simply requiring them to be tested before leaving Canada.
