According to the National Crime Agency (NCA), Macann was found to be in possession of a fake passport and a genuine passport in someone else’s name.

He is wanted by Norfolk Police for alleged conspiracy to supply Class A drugs, reports The Independent.

Macann, formerly of Dereham, Norfolk, is accused of supplying several kilograms of cocaine in 2020, in which he and his accomplices used encrypted mobile phones.

The criminal’s arrest follows a Most Wanted campaign by the NCA and Crimestoppers in January this year.

He was included on the list of 12 suspected fugitives believed to be hiding in Spain.

Macann is the fifth person arrested on the list and remains in custody while awaiting the start of extradition proceedings.

He was located and arrested after a joint operation by the National Crime Agency, the Bulgarian Police and the Spanish Civil Guard.

Steve Reynolds, NCA Regional Manager in Spain, said: “Benjamin Macann’s arrest was made possible by the amazing work of our international liaison officers, the Guardia Civil refugee team, the Bulgarian Police and our colleagues in the Bulgarian Directorate for International Cooperation, to whom we are very grateful.

“Macann is the fifth fugitive to be arrested by the Most Wanted list. We won’t stop until the rest are caught.”

Detective Sergeant Eddie Hammond, of the Norfolk and Suffolk Serious Organized Crime Unit, said: “We continue to work with partners and law enforcement around the world to find our most wanted.

“We want to thank them all for their continued determination and meticulous hard work as they continue to disrupt criminal networks around the world, which means nowhere is safe to hide.”

Lord Ashcroft, Founder and Chairman of the charity Crimestoppers, said: “Our charity aims to help people speak up anonymously if they know of crimes, and that includes sharing the whereabouts of fugitives who are being investigated by law enforcement authorities both at home and abroad be sought abroad.

“It is incredibly heartening to learn that another fugitive has been captured, demonstrating the success of our joint Most Wanted campaign with the NCA.”
