ONE person is dead and more than a dozen injured after Hamas militants fired thousands of rockets into Israel.

Following the horror that unfolded this morning, the armed forces have now declared a “state of war”.

Footage on social media shows burning cars and buildings, with large clouds of smoke visible from the distance.

Air raid sirens were heard across southern and central Israel, while explosions rocked the cities of Tel Aviv, Ashkelon, Yavneh and Kfar Aviv.

Sky News reported that one person was killed in the attack while an OAP fought for her life.

A 20-year-old man was also injured after being hit by rocket fragments and was believed to be one of at least 15 injured.

Israel ordered locals to stay in their homes near bomb shelters, saying: “Military declares war alert.”

The Israeli military said “a number of terrorists have entered Israeli territory” and were attacking targets in the Gaza Strip.
