Saemapetch Fairtex is happy that he doesn’t have to stand in the opposite corner of the Circle against his close friend Tawanchai PK.Saenchai Muaythaigym again.
Two Thai strikers clash in ONE: Heavy Attacker on January 14. Though entering the match confidently guaranteeing victory over his longtime friend, Saempaetch is already at the receiving end of a left hand rendering him unconscious.
After the match, Tawanchai told ONE commentator Mitch Chilson that he wanted to move up a weight division to challenge Petchyindee Academy Petchmorakot for the featherweight Muay Thai gold medal. This announcement brought great relief to Saemapetch.
Talking to A championship Earlier this week, he said:
“When Tawanchai announced that he would be fighting in the featherweight division, I feel so relieved right now that we both won’t have to fight each other anymore. I don’t want to go against my friend. I have to admit that Tawanchai is a very difficult person to fight with. ”
Saemapetch was hesitant to confront the Bangkok native when he was presented with the offer. But the 27-year-old knows he has to accept it because he wants to put himself at the top of his game in a rematch with living Muay Thai legend Nong-O Gaiyanghadao for the Muay Thai bantamweight world title.
He admitted he wasn’t against Tawanchai anything when they pitted each other at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
“I fought with all my might without holding back. Everyone can see how serious we were in the Circle. My blows are real, my injuries are real, you can see the proof from the bruises on my face here. If we had all held back, I wouldn’t have been injured like this.”
Saemapetch Fairtex’s top position at stake
The Chiang Mai-born player understands that he must improve or risk losing his 1st place in the 65.8kg category.
Saemapetch came back from a world championship defeat to Nong-O in November 2019 with two straight kills against Thai stars Rodlek PK.Saenchai Muaythaigym and Kulabdam Sor. Jor. Piek Uthai. He hasn’t scored a single win in the Circle since.
2nd-ranked Rittewada Petchyindee Academy has its eyes on the top spot, and a few more wins will secure him a chance to face Nong-O for the world title later this year.
