It comes as a chain extremely active research showed that Omicron IS was milder than other strains, with the first official UK report revealing the risk of hospitalization as 50 to 70% lower than Delta.

Health officials have repeatedly said the Covid booster shots protect against Omicron and offer the best chance of weathering the pandemic.

The Sun’s Jabs Army campaign is helping to get key additional vaccines in British arms to avoid the need for any new restrictions.

“Well, we look at the data every day,” the Health Secretary told Sky News this afternoon.

“We get the best advice from our scientists, the NHS, and we’ve put all of that together.

“And while of course, there’s some uncertainty around this variant, it’s evolving rapidly.

“We think about 90% of the cases now across the UK are the variant of Omicron. It shows you how quickly it has spread.”

Across the UK, hospital admissions of Covid patients jumped 74 per cent last week, with another 1,281 patients booked into departments on December 25.

Health Minister Sajid Javid said today that the majority of people hospitalized with Covid are unvaccinated.

He said no new measures would be introduced, but that people should exercise caution and perform flow tests after they go out to events or parties.

“There will be no further measures on the eve of the new year.

“We will not be taking any further measures. Of course people should be cautious as we move towards the New Year celebrations,” Javid said.

Also today, Mr. Sajid also announced that no new Covid restrictions will be in place before January 1, in order to save on New Year’s Eve festivities.

Millions of Britons breathed a sigh of relief when the Health Secretary confirmed they could celebrate the New Year with friends and loved ones.

But Mr Javid urged Britons to exercise caution and receive extra blows to protect their communities.

“While there is still a lot of uncertainty surrounding this new variant, we know that our best form of defense is vaccination,” he said.

On December 25, an additional 113,628 cases were recorded, and on December 26 the number was 108,893.

But while there will be no new legal restrictions on Britain on Monday, that doesn’t rule out nationwide “guidance” that police cannot enforce.

Measures could include a non-mandatory reintroduction of the disgusting Six-Six Rule – but police cannot fine Britons who don’t follow.

Boris Johnson has been reluctant to summon Parliament to impose the legally binding restrictions of rubberstamp.

Today, the Prime Minister is expected to meet with top advisers, Professor Chris Whitty and Sir Patrick Vallance to look through the data Omicron collected over Christmas.

Data on London hospital admissions – a score of zero for the latest highly contagious variant – was also discussed, as scientists take a positive look at the current outlook, it is understood. .
