Olivia Wilde’s ‘Don’t Worry Darling’ enhances women’s pleasure and sexuality

“Why isn’t there any good sex in the movies anymore?” Olivia Wilde asked. Her new film aims to remedy that.

Any list of the most anticipated movies of 2022 is bound to include wildernessPsychological thriller “Don’t Worry Darling”, starring the main actors Florence Pugh and Harry Styles. The project is Wilde’s follow-up to his groundbreaking directorial debut “Booksmart,” but the two films couldn’t be more different. Wilde recently said Vogue that “Don’t Worry Darling” is equivalent to “”The Feminine Mystique” was doused with acid, and grapples with the question, “What are you willing to sacrifice to do what’s right? If you really think about it, you Are you ready to blow up the system that serves you?”

The official synopsis for Don’t Worry Darling reads: “A 1950s housewife living with her husband in a utopian experimental community begins to worry that her glamorous company may be hiding hide disturbing secrets.” Katie Silberman, the co-writer of Wilde “Booksmart,” wrote the film based on an original screenplay by the Van Dyke brothers. The supporting cast includes Gemma Chan, KiKi Layne and Chris Pine. Darren Aronofsky’s longtime cinematographer, Matthew Libatique, is the cinematographer.

Talking to Vogue, Wilde cites Adrian Lyne’s psychological thrillers as “Deadly Attraction” and “Indecent Proposal” as the inspiration for “Don’t Worry Honey.” As the filmmaker said, “[Those movies are] really sexy, in a mature way… I kept saying, ‘Why aren’t there any good sex movies in movies anymore?’

Vogue magazine cover story report: “One [scene], with a hardworking Styles and a most contented Pugh, will generate some serious attention – and, if the devotion of Styles’ fan base is any indication, it’s mania. chaos – when ‘Don’t Worry Darling’ was released.
