Officer injured, suspect dead after police-involved shooting – CBS Miami

CORAL GABLES (CBSMiami) – An investigation is underway after a police shooting in Coral Gables resulted in one death.
According to Coral Gables Sheriff Ed Hudak, it all started Sunday morning when someone called about an attempt to break into traffic in the 100 block of Calabria Ave.

“On arrival, our first officer observed individuals actually breaking into a vehicle with the doors open and the hood up,” explains Hudak. “When engaging with individuals, the officer who arrived first and the officer who arrived second opened fire to stop or protect their lives.”

According to Mr. Hudak, one suspect died at the scene. A second suspect has been arrested.
One of the responding officers was hospitalized in good condition. There was no word on the type of injuries the officer suffered.
Hudak said the Florida Department of Law Enforcement would be the lead investigator because it was a shooting that involved an officer.
