Nottingham Forest smokes after being denied a penalty for Alisson’s challenge to Ryan Yates despite VAR checks

NOTTINGHAM FOREST went up in smoke after being denied a late penalty in their FA Cup loss to Liverpool.
Diogo Jota’s 78th-minute strike denied the Championship side’s semi-final clash with Man City at Wembley.

But Forest believe they were brutally executed by VAR with minutes remaining in the game.
Ryan Yates scored the winner in the 85th minute to make an impressive equalizer.
He tried to hit the ball around Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson, who shot the ball out in vain after darting out of his position.
And a full throttle from both men saw Yates descend into the box.

The Forest star and teammates fiercely protested to the referee that it was a penalty.
However, VAR entered the conversation when Stockley Park officials reviewed the footage.
And replays suggest that although Alisson’s decision was hasty, there was little contact between him and Yates, who also appeared to pull his leg off.
Even so, the players and fans disagreed, while the home fans still booed the decision after the final whistle.

But there was a mixed reaction on Twitter from football fans, with seemingly even splits between those who thought it was a penalty and those who believed VAR got it right.
As for Forest, one fan said: “How is it not a penalty?
“If that happens on the other end, I bet it’s a penalty.
“The forest has been properly cleared.”
Another wrote: “Honestly sorry for Forest today, very questionable decisions.”
One added: “Why not a penalty when the keeper’s hand is already clearly touching the collar of the Jungler’s boot?
“There was definitely a connection.”
In the opposite corner, one fan tweeted: “Never a penalty. The jungler should have been registered to play with Alisson.”

Another claimed: “It was grim for Forest to ask for a penalty. Literally, he dragged his foot over Alisson’s arm trying to make contact.”
One added: “Not a penalty, the Jungler tries to initiate contact with his foot.”
