Nottingham Forest have signed winger Brennan Johnson to a new four-year deal after being linked with Tottenham and Newcastle

BRENNAN JOHNSON has capped a sensational season for club and country by signing a new four-year deal with Nottingham Forest.

Johnson, who has been at the club since he was eight, scored 19 goals and provided ten assists to end Forest’s 23-year wait to return to the Prem – before helping Wales qualify for their first World Cup finals in 64 years to qualify.

His form led to him receiving the Championship Young Player of the Year award and attracting interest from several Premier League clubs.

Brentford is a long-term admirer, while Newcastle, Leeds, Leicester and Tottenham have also been interested in the Welshman.

But Johnson has remained loyal to Forest after dreaming of playing for the club in the top flight.

Johnson said of his new deal: “I just wanted to say that the support I’ve felt from the fans over the last season has been incredible.

“Playing for Nottingham Forest in the Premier League was always my dream growing up and now it’s coming true.

“It’s been an incredible journey from the academy to the first team and I want to thank the manager, all the staff and the whole board for believing in me and giving me the confidence to go on the pitch and show what I can .

“I’m really looking forward to this new season and to feeling the energy of the fans at the City Ground, which I’m sure will be something special.”

Steve Cooper, who turned down an £18m offer from Brentford for Johnston last season, said: “Brennan was instrumental in our success last year and he has the potential to be a huge influence on our return to the Premier League gain weight.

“He has spent his entire footballing life at Nottingham Forest and everyone at the club is very proud of what he has achieved so far.

“However, at just 21 years old, his best days are still ahead of him and he has a very high limit to what he can achieve.

“Against this background we are all very pleased that he is making a long-term commitment to Nottingham Forest.”
