TRUNG DAO, TX. (NEXSTAR) – At ABC Big 2 News, we are recognizing the tremendous contributions women make to the nation and local communities.
Outstanding Women is part of a nationwide Nexstar Media initiative that celebrates the influence women have on public policy, social progress and quality of life.
Ahead of International Women’s Day, we’ll highlight four local women who inspire, lead and pave the way for others. Out of all submissions— a winner is chosen..
We’re highlighting last year’s winner, Jennifer Dumire.
Jennifer works at Breast Cancer Center in Midland and has been a nurse for 28 years.
Now a year after receiving the honor, she says things are better than ever in her life.
“It was truly a wonderful gift to my life,” says Dumire. “I do a lot of things in life, I have a career, I volunteer at my church, I go on medical missions, but really your biggest job as a mother is How did you raise your children?”
She says finding out she won last year came at the perfect time in her life.
“I was diagnosed with COVID around this time last year, and was in the hospital, off work for 6 weeks, I was very sick, and I was awarded this award in March – so it really is a great motivation after being so sick. . ‘ said Dumire.
From shopping to visiting spas, the winners each year have a special day just for them.
“There’s a lot of pampering that comes with it, I went shopping at Dillards, I got my hair cut, I lost 2/3 of my hair because of COVID so a nice new haircut is a real treat. .” Dumire said.
But Jennifer says she doesn’t stand out above anyone else.
“Just an honor and recognition. I don’t stand out more than any other woman in the world, each woman has their own gifts and talents and does amazing things.” Dumire said.
As a woman, Jennifer says, it’s great to have that recognition.
“Everyone works hard, every woman has her own job, whether it is taking care of children, taking care of parents or balancing career with family, they have a lot of things. Most of the time no one tells you you’re doing a great job, or that you’re really special. ‘ said Dumire.
She said that seeing other nationally recognized Distinguished Women was a special thing to see.
“This family or sorority of Outstanding Women across the country, gets to see other women, see the different things women do, see them celebrated. I just think it’s a really special gift you guys give to women each year by doing this. “Dumire said.
