The North Korean Foreign Ministry confirmed the correspondence after royal fans worldwide sent their best wishes.

However, officials refused to reveal the contents of the letter, saying it was a private message to the 96-year-old monarch.

A Buckingham Palace spokesman said: “Kim Jong Un’s private message to Her Majesty The Queen on the occasion of her Platinum Jubilee falls in line with standard practice of receiving messages from countries with which we have diplomatic relations.”

And it’s not the first time the heads of state, who both inherited their power from their fathers, have been in touch.

In September last year, Queen Kim sent her well wishes in a message to mark her country’s National Day.

It read, “As the people of the DPRK celebrate their National Day, I send my good wishes for the future.”

The North Korean tyrant’s latest messages to the monarch came as world leaders paid tribute to the 96-year-old.

The Queen is the first British monarch to celebrate a platinum jubilee and Britain is celebrating four days in her honour.

In a moving message, former US President Obama praised the Queen’s reign and her “mercy and generosity”.

Recalling his first trip to greet her with his wife Michelle, he described how Her Majesty “put her mind at ease” and touchingly said she reminded him of his grandmother.

Joe Biden and his wife Jill also followed suit, posting a video message wishing the king a “joyful platinum anniversary celebration.”

The US President added: “On behalf of the United States, congratulations to Queen Elizabeth II on an unprecedented 70 years of service to the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth, and thank you for your friendship with the American people.”

And French President Emmanuel Macron praised the Queen in a video message as the “golden thread” connecting France and Great Britain.

He said, “Through these changes, your commitment to our alliance and friendship has remained and has helped build the trust that has brought freedom and prosperity to our continent.”

INTERNATIONAL PRAISE

Pope Francis also shared a poignant message with the Queen at the start of the historic holiday.

He added: “On the joyful birthday of Her Majesty and as you celebrate this Platinum Jubilee year, I send warm greetings and well wishes, along with renewed assurances of my prayers to you, the members of The Royal Family and all Blessings of unity, prosperity and peace to the people of the nation.”

But she is not waiting for Russian warmonger Vladimir Putin to acknowledge her achievements.

Presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the government would announce in the coming days whether the despot would extend its respect.

Celebs also joined in the applause for Her Majesty, with football stars including David Beckham leading the tributes.

Beatles legend Sir Paul McCartney also paid tribute to Her Majesty with a commemorative photo of them 24 years ago in Liverpool.

Spice Girl Geri Horner also posted an old photo of the famous group of girls, who met the Queen during her heyday.

Former Countdown star Carol Vordermann then shared a portrait of the Queen wishing everyone a good weekend.
